Best Buy: Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch Series 7
If you want to go for the best Apple Watch, then you end up with the Apple Watch Series 7. The screen surface is larger, has narrower edges and the glass is 50% thicker. In addition, the screen is brighter and stronger. Apple has also added a full-screen keyboard to this larger display. This makes typing easier by swiping your finger over the letters on the screen.
Do you think the Apple Watch Series 7 is a bit too expensive? Then choose the Apple Watch Series 6. You can easily save around 60 euros. You then miss a few small things, such as the extra fast charging, the slightly larger screen and the even stronger glass. Furthermore, the Apple Watch Series 6 has almost all the functions that the Series 7 also has.
Price-conscious purchase: Apple Watch SE
The Apple Watch SE has a slightly slower chip than the ones in the Apple Watch Series 6 or Series 7, but you don’t notice that much in practice. This S5 chip of the SE watch is fast enough and pleasant to use. It is the same chip that we also find in the Apple Watch Series 5.
The SE includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, fall detection and app to prevent hearing damage. This will be enough for most people.
You do miss a few features that the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch Series 7 do have. The Apple Watch SE, for example, does not have an ECG function on board. This allows your smartwatch to make heart movies. The saturation meter (oxygen percentage in the blood) of the Apple Watch 6 is also nowhere to be seen. Furthermore, the Apple Watch SE does not have an always-on display. Such a screen is always on so that you can check incoming messages, even when you are not actively using the watch.
The only thing you should not forget is the support term. The Apple Watch SE is a year older than the Series 7, so (probably) the watch will also get one less software update.
Bad Buy: Apple Watch Series 3
The cheapest Apple smartwatch that you can buy from Apple is the Apple Watch Series 3. The smartwatch has support for watchOS 8, but it lacks a number of functions. That’s too bad. However, there is more to it…
The Apple Watch Series 3 will not receive an update to watchOS 9. Apple has already announced Apple WatchOS 9 during the WWDC and the real release will most likely follow in September of 2022. That means you will no longer receive updates from then on. That’s why we really can’t afford to recommend the Apple Watch Series 3 in this 2022 buying advice.
Buying advice 2022: Apple Watch too expensive, buy a tracker
Do you still think the Apple Watch is not too expensive? Then check out a tracker, such as the Fitbit Charge 5. You can use it as a kind of watch and you will also see your notifications on the screen, just like with the Apple Watch. You can also measure your heart rate, track steps and register workouts.
