In Canada, Adobe has started testing a free version of Photoshop. This will include using Photoshop on the web for free. Adobe plans to make this free version available to everyone.
Adobe Photoshop
We all know Adobe Photoshop as the graphics program from Adobe, which makes it possible, among other things, to edit photos. It is arguably the best digital imaging software out there today and has been used for years by graphic designers, photographers and students, among others, to edit their 2D and 3D images. However, the useful features in Photoshop are not free. At the moment you pay no less than a subscription to Photoshop 24.19 euros per month.
However, this is more or less about to change. In Canada, Adobe is testing a web version of its service that should be available for free. However, some functions would be omitted. These will only be available to people who take out a paid subscription. Adobe does indicate that the ‘core functions’ will be present in the free web version. It is not yet known which one this is exactly, but think here for example of the Lasso tool and working in different layers and with masks.
Maria Yap, vice president at Adobe, signs up The Verge Also, about the free web version: ”We want to make it easier for people to try Photoshop. Thanks to the free web version, you no longer need a high-end computer to use Adobe Photoshop.”
When available?
In October 2021, Adobe first released a beta that allowed users to use Photoshop and Illustrator on the web. This allowed users to make changes to documents that were in the Adobe cloud, without having to download those documents. The free web version that Adobe is working on is currently only available to users in Canada with a free Adobe account. It is not yet known when the free web version will be available to everyone. The intention is that soon everyone with a (free) Photoshop account will be able to log in to the web version and then create a document here and edit it.
Can’t wait until then? In this article we have tested four different apps for you in which you can make your photos (even) more beautiful right now for free. And one of them is also from Adobe.
Do you have a subscription to Photoshop? And what do you think of the free web version to come? Let us know in the comments below this article.
