Introducing MacOS Ventura
(Image: Apple)
At WWDC 2022, we were first introduced to macOS 13 Ventura: the new operating system for your Mac. The update will be released around the fall of 2022 and will bring a lot of nice improvements.
Despite the fact that Ventura is being rolled out for both Intel and M1 Macs, not only computers will get the same functionalities. People with an Intel model are missing out on a few.
macOS 13 Ventura: Features Missing on Your Intel Mac
Unfortunately, there are a number of functionalities that macOS 13 Ventura introduces, but which your Intel Mac cannot take advantage of. It concerns the following matters:
Reference Mode
Those who use their Mac for color editing, especially in the field of photo and video editing, can Reference Mode to use. Thanks to this functionality, you can connect your 12.9-inch iPad Pro with your Apple computer, just like with Sidecar or Universal Control. Once this macOS 13 Ventura feature is enabled, it will be possible to view the final result on that screen. Great for content creators and professionals, but unfortunately not as soon as they use a Mac with an Intel chip.

macOS 13 Ventura: Live Captions
Thanks to macOS 13 Ventura, it no longer matters whether a particular application supports subtitles. It is possible, using Live Captions, convert any kind of audio into plain text. You can even record FaceTime conversations this way. Ideal for that one colleague who always has to take minutes during online meetings. At the moment the functionality only works in English, but the hope is of course that this will also work with our language in the future. Although you must have an M1 or M2 Mac.
Dictate Emoji
Along with iOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura makes it possible to choose Emoji with your voice. Where you previously only text via the Dictatefunction, it is also possible to describe one of the countless characters. This is not yet possible in Dutch, but knowing Apple, we are working on it. Unfortunately, a Mac with an Intel chip will not suffice for this either. You really need Apple Silicon for that.
