You get a lot of functions with iOS 16 on your iPhone, but some things are also going to change with Apple Music. iPhoned tells you what you need to know!
You get these Apple Music features in iOS 16
Unfortunately, Apple didn’t reveal much about what’s going to change for Apple Music in iOS 16 during WWDC 2022. There aren’t any major changes coming, but there are some cool new features that you’re sure to like.
Sort playlists in iOS 16: Apple Music
Soon, in iOS 16, you will finally be able to sort the Apple Music playlists on your iPhone and iPad. You then have the choice to organize the list by ‘Title’, ‘Artist’, ‘Album’ and ‘Release date’. You can also set the sorting ascending or descending.

Favorite Artists
You will get a new option on an artist’s profile page. Tapping the star icon at the top right will notify you of new music from your favorite artists, new features, live events and special offers.
Volume button is gone
Gone might be a bit of an exaggeration, but Apple Music in iOS 16 no longer has a button on the volume bar. That does not make much difference to the functionality, but it is more difficult to see how loud (or soft) you have the music. Incidentally, the dot has also disappeared with the music progress, but the bars have become a bit thicker.

Album covers have more rounded corners
When you search for albums, playlists or songs, you will always see a list of search results. If you look very closely at the album covers found, you will see that a small change has been made. The corners of the albums have slightly more rounded corners.

Apple Music widget customizations on the lockscreen
The Apple Music widget (which you see on the lock screen when you play music) has received a minor upgrade. For example, if you have AirPods or a HomePod connected, you will now see this in the small window.

Drag and drop songs to play
It becomes easier to add new songs to your current Apple Music playlist in iOS 16. Normally, you tap the three dots next to the song and choose “Play next” to add the song to the music list.
From iOS 16, it will also be possible to drag songs (and complete albums) to the current list. The added tracks will then be played next automatically.
Even more minor changes to Apple Music in iOS 16
There are a few more minor changes that Apple Music is going to get. This way you can now play music from one HomePod to another, without having to use AirPlay first.
Apple Music also gets better integration with SharePlay. SharePlay makes it easier to share music, movies and photos with your friends and family. With SharePlay you can, for example, watch a movie together or go crazy by listening to the same song together.
