UAZ is a Russian manufacturer that, in addition to a set of relatively current models, also sells the ancient Hunter and the Classic / SGR in every area archaic. A version converted into a camper van is now available from the latter, which dates back to 1965!
If you would like to camp, but find a tent too spartan and a caravan or trailer tent is too much of a hassle, you can give yourself a camper for the holiday period. If you also want to get original from the corner at the campsite, you really only have one option: order this UAZ ‘Classic Combi’ converted into a camper!
A quick look back. The Classic Combi is a very spartan commercial vehicle that basically appeared on the Russian market as 452 in 1965. The 452 built by UAZ (Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant) is still available in various forms. For example, you have versions with an open body with single or double cabin and there are also several closed passenger versions available. The Combi, the 3909, is one of them. It is because of its somewhat striking shape in Russia affectionately called ‘Bukhanka’ (sandwich) with which you can now undoubtedly enjoy an unforgettable holiday.
This 452 / Combi converted into a camper is the result of a collaboration between UAZ and the Russian Lux Form, a company that knows how to make a camper from the Lada Granta (photo 11). The 452 / Combi is equipped with a lifting roof by Lux Form, so you do not have to spend your holidays in a bent state. The headroom is now two meters. Curtains will naturally hang in the interior, but more important is the presence of two easy-to-fold out beds, which can accommodate four people in total. Both beds are about two meters long, although the high-mounted one with its width of 1.26 meters is a lot narrower than the bottom one. Behind the front seats you will also find a folding table. The adventurous Russian also has various storage cabinets and a stove and optionally comes with a folding awning.
The drivetrain does not mess around, which means that it has a 112 hp and 198 Nm strong 2.7-liter petrol engine, which optionally distributes the power over all four wheels. The one shown in these photos is also on the heavy-duty off-road tires, which come with the optional lift kit that this cheerful orange camper is equipped with. The conversion is not only available for ‘new’ 452s, your old loyal animal can also be offered at Lux Form.
