Lower, wider, stronger
The Lamborghini Urus is now more than four years old and so the gentlemen and ladies in Sant’Agata Bolognese believe the time is ripe for an extra heavier variant. This is the Lamborghini Urus Performante.
Until now, the Lamborghini Urus was only available in one flavour. Lamborghini’s much sportier brother of cars like the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q8 always had a 4.0 liter biturbo V8. That eight-cylinder was always 650 hp strong. Now that the Urus is about halfway through its intended life, Lamborghini is giving the SUV the Performante treatment.
The Lamborghini Urus Performante has the same 4.0 biturbo V8 as the already known version, although that machine in the Performante produces 666 hp and 850 Nm. Only 16 hp more, but in addition, the Urus Performante is 47 kilos lighter than the regular versions. The Urus Performante is therefore able to accelerate to a speed of 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. The regular Urus needs 0.3 seconds longer for that sprint. The top speed is 306 km/h.
Lamborghini has been able to make the Urus lighter by, among other things, manufacturing the also newly designed hood with cooling openings from carbon fiber. In addition, parts of the rear bumper are made of the lightweight material. A carbon fiber roof is also available as an option. Lamborghini gives the Urus Performance different bumpers and a new rear spoiler. According to the Italians, the newly designed rear spoiler already provides the Urus Performance with 30 percent more downward pressure than the regular Urus. The new spoiler work makes the Urus Performante 2.5 centimeters longer in length. Lamborghini further moves the Performante 2 centimeters closer to the asphalt, increases the track width by 1.6 centimeters and puts the car on 22- or 23-inch large lightweight wheels with special Pirelli tires. Under the car hangs a lightweight titanium exhaust system from Akrapovič.
More changes? Secure. For example, the co-steering rear axle reacts more directly and the steering system has also been adjusted. Lamborghini further tweaks the Urus’ driving modes and even adds a new Rally mode. Fun fact: in China, the Urus Performante with 640 hp is less powerful. “For homologation reasons,” said Lamborghini. The Urus has turned out to be a real sales stunner for Lamborghini. 20,000 units were sold in about 4 years.
