After years of growth, sales of youngtimers and classics fell in the first six months of this year. Over the past five years, the number of transactions of cars from 15 years old has increased every year, until now: in recent months we have seen a significant decrease of more than 25 percent. The total number of cars aged 15 and over sold in the first six months of 2021 was 121,414. Over the same period this year, that number dropped to 90,210, a 25.7 percent drop. This is evident from figures from Cartalk International.

The figures from Cartalk International show that the decline is spread over all age groups. The drop is especially notable because the number of transactions in this age group has steadily increased since 2018. The figures also show that the decrease is more or less the same. Whether it concerns sales from car companies to consumers or between consumers themselves.

In the age group from fifteen to forty years old, the decrease this year is 25.5 percent.

In the age group of forty years and older, we have to measure sales in dozens. In the Top 10 we see two Mercedes – the 200 series and the S-class – and no fewer than three Volkswagens: the Beetle, the Transporter and the Golf. Remarkable is the position of the Ford Mustang in third place. But yes, the Chevrolet Corvette is also high, in eighth place.
