The real world
You probably know the Ford F-Series mainly from the immensely popular F-150. The by far most popular Ford in the United States, however, usually also has heavier sister models that listen to names such as F-250, F-350 and F-450. They fall under the Super Duty line of the F-Series. The F-150 was completely revamped in 2020 and now Ford is introducing updated Super Duty models.
The Ford F-150 is already available in many flavors, in addition to all regular versions, there are also flavors such as the F-150 Raptor and the fully electric Lightning. Until now, the F-150 was the most modern member of the current F-series, after all, the Super Duty series was still based on the F-series. Now the Super Duty model line has also been replaced, which means that you can tow even heavier trailers from here to there.
The Super Duty models of Ford’s F-series can be compared with the Heavy Duty models of major competitor Silverado. The Ford Super Duty line includes the F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-600. In general, the larger the number, the higher the towing and load capacity of the model. The real workhorses of the F family are available as 5.89 meter long three-seat Regular Cab, but also as SuperCab and CrewCab with six seats each. The latter two variants are also available with an extended wheelbase. The long-wheelbase CrewCab is by far the largest of the bunch. It extends over a distance of 6.76 meters. Depending on the version chosen, not only the wheelbase, but also the track width may differ. The basically rear-wheel drive Super Duty’s have a slightly shorter wheelbase than the four-wheel drive versions and things such as the ride height and the depth of the cargo box also differ between the body styles.
Since the Super Duty’s are pick-ups, it’s not surprising that the engines that Ford brings to the new part of the F-series are certainly not modest. The base engine is a 6.8 liter V8. That petrol engine has a 7.3 liter measuring V8 above it, although Ford does not release any power yet. Diesel is also possible with a 6.7 PowerStroke diesel in two power variants. From the outside, the Super Duty’s are a lot bigger, higher and wider than the more famous F-150’s from every angle. Ford gives the Super Duty models a simpler-looking interior.
Ford has not yet released detailed technical data on payloads and towing capacities.
