What influence has Darwin’s theory of evolution had on our view of God/human beings?

What influence has Darwin’s theory of evolution had on our view of God/human beings? By this I mean that this has had an influence on how we view the world and God. Has our view of God changed drastically after the theory of evolution? and if so how?

Answer

Best,

Our view of humanity has changed drastically. After all, most religions argued that man was created by God and that other living beings were created to serve man. Evolutionary biology has made us realize that humans are not separate from the rest of nature, but are simply part of it. Humans are just one of many animal species that evolved from common ancestors. Humans are thus related to the other living beings and are not somewhere “separate” or central to biology.
Moreover, the evolution of species is largely dependent on chance. So the fact that we are there as a human species is actually a coincidence. And there is no predetermined plan by which the evolution of life takes place. However, according to most religions, man was/is the goal of everything and there is a plan in God’s creation.
The Roman Catholic religion has already partly followed the scientific insights and largely accepts the theory of evolution, but does believe that a “divine power” started and perhaps also adjusted the whole process. There is no scientific evidence for this, nor evidence to the contrary.
