The Chinese brand itself was not quite ready yet, but there are still photos online of the station wagon version of the recently presented Baojun RC-5. The fact that this variant is even available is special for China, which usually focuses on sedans and SUVs.
It is now the SUV that connects the entire world population, but until recently there was a clear division into body styles per continent. Europe was also a bit of an outsider. For example, station wagons have been a typically European affair in recent decades. Whether it is the Americas, Africa or Asia, sedans and there are usually more in demand.
Hatchbacks are also generally valued primarily by European buyers. All the more remarkable, then, that the new Baojun RC-5 is most likely not a sedan, but a liftback with a large tailgate. The Chinese are thus served a true outsider, with the stubbornly lined carriage also putting a penny in the bag.
Thanks to the Chinese Autohome, we know that Baojun goes a step further in this area, because the RC-5 is also shown as a Wagon on this site. The RC-5W shares all self-willed design features with its liftback brother, but adds a further rear roofline, roof rails and a roof spoiler.
In Europe we should not expect the RC-5W anyway, because Baojun is a brand that will continue to focus on China as far as we know. The brand is a product of a joint venture of General Motors, SAIC and Wuling and serves as a cheaper alternative to the GM brands Chevrolet and Buick.
