Flashback: ‘BMW X2 coming in 2017’

Exactly five years ago it seemed quite impossible, but BMW would come with yet another SUV. There was still a gaping hole between the BMW X1 and X3. Rumors went on May 15, 2015 that the X2 would fill this gap in 2017. It turned out not to have been a word.

In 2015, BMW’s range had four SUVs: the X1, X3, X5 and X6. Exactly five years later, BMW has worked out considerably and the X series from 1 to 7 has been completely filled. Not much is known about the X2 in 2015, as evidenced by the render we had made. There is a hip SUV with only three doors! Time has shown that the final BMW X2 (unfortunately) has turned out to be a little less unique.

On May 15, five years ago, BMW’s management told the British coach that the X2 will arrive and that it should be in 2017. At the time, it is announced that the X2 will share its platform with the 2-series Active Tourer. Less than six months later, the first spy images of a packed X2 follow, after which patent drawings leak in July 2017 and the official unveiling follows on October 25, 2017. Compared to its SUV brothers, the X2 is a bit more pronounced and a bit tougher on its feet. Over time, the price list has been supplemented with various sporty and electrified versions, such as the M35i and plug-in xDrive25e. Last month, a harbinger of the facelifted X2 surfaced for the first time. In the Netherlands, just under 1,400 people bought an X2.
