Burton no longer a Dutch car maker

Burton Company is no longer a Dutch company. The Burton Car Company founded in 1993 – known for the roadsters based on the Citroën 2CV – comes into French hands.

You have undoubtedly seen them driving, those classic-looking open two-seaters based on the 2CV. Although more companies based on the Citroën 2CV make open versions, there is a good chance that the copy that passed by is a creation of the Dutch Burton Car Company. At least, Dutch. The company, founded in 1993, has now been taken over by the French 2CV Mehari Club Cassis. The two founders remain involved with the company.

The acquisition of Burton should make the company future proof to make. Burton Car Company will remain an independent organization within the 2CV Mehari Club Cassis, although they will work together in various areas. The newly formed alliance will start projects in the field of electric cars, among other things.

The Burton Sportscar is by far Burton’s most famous model. This is an open two-seater built on the chassis of the Citroën 2CV that you can also assemble yourself with a little dexterity. Burton also produces parts for the 2CV and supplies over 4,000 different parts.
