These are the 7 new features the iPhone 15 will get (in 2023)

You’ll have to wait for the iPhone 15 to arrive, but we’re already showing you 7 new features that you can expect soon. This will be Apple’s new flagship!

iPhone 15: 7 new features

The iPhone 14 has only just been released, but there are already more and more rumors about the successor. It remains to be seen, because the iPhone 15 will probably only be officially announced in September 2023.

To ease the long wait, we have listed 7 new features of the iPhone 15 for you. It looks like Apple has quite a few innovations in store this time around!

These are the 7 new features the iPhone 15 will get (in 2023)

1. First iPhone with USB-C port

The Lightning port will probably come to an end in 2023 and Apple will switch to USB-c. This has a big advantage, because you can then charge your iPad, MacBook and iPhone with the same cable.

Apple is obliged to switch to USB-C as the EU has passed a law stating that all new electronic devices must have a USB-C connection by November 2024.

However, a small caveat needs to be added here. Apple can of course also choose to completely omit the charging port on the iPhone 15. You will then have to charge your iPhone wirelessly from now on.

2. Other Buttons (You Can’t Press)

According to the reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 still gets buttons, but you can no longer physically press them. You still ‘feel’ that you are pressing the button, but actually the button does not move. The iPhone 15 then uses special vibration motors to give you the feeling that you are pressing the button.

If you’ve ever owned an iPhone 7, you might recognize the feature. This iPhone had a Home button, but you couldn’t press it either. By means of vibrating motors it seemed as if you could press the head.

By switching to these kinds of buttons, the iPhone 15 will soon be better able to withstand water and dirt. It could well be that Apple can significantly improve the water and dust resistance of the iPhone 15.

Dynamic Island

3. Dynamic Island for all iPhone 15 . models

The Dynamic Island was, of course, the showpiece of the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. While the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus still had to make do with an ‘old-fashioned’ notch.

Apple is expected to provide all models of the iPhone 15 with the Dynamic Island. You no longer have to buy the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max if you want this new function.

4. iPhone 15 camera with periscope lens

One of the coolest new features of the iPhone 15 is the periscope lens. This will allow you to zoom in even further than is already possible on the iPhone 14 Pro (Max).

Smartphones are generally no thicker than about 8 to 9 millimeters. However, lenses must be a certain size and depth to provide long focal lengths and wide apertures. These are necessary to be able to zoom far, but manufacturers are now running into limitations because smartphones are too thin and too small.

iPhone 15 new features periscope

With a periscope lens, that problem no longer exists. A mirror reflects the incoming light from the lens 90 degrees. The lenses in the iPhone 15 can therefore be placed horizontally in the smartphone. There is then much more space available for more and better lenses.

5. A new name for the flagship

According to Apple expert Mark Gurman, the naming may change. For example, the iPhone 15 Pro Max would be replaced by the iPhone 15 Ultra. Apple can then choose to release things like the persicoop lens exclusively on the iPhone 15 Ultra.

Ming-Chi Kuo has also said before that the periscope camera will only be available on the largest (and most expensive) iPhone. So do you want the best camera? Be sure to check out the Ultra version of the iPhone 15.

6. A17 chip: faster and more economical

A new iPhone also gets a new chip, of course. Apple will probably introduce the A17 chip for the iPhone 15. This will be about 10 to 15 percent faster than the A16 chip from the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). This new chip will also be up to 30 percent more efficient.

Probably only the iPhone 15 Pro models will receive this new chip. And the regular iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus will remain stuck on an (improved) A16 chip.

iPhone 15 Pro

7. More working memory

Perhaps one of the least interesting new features of the iPhone 15 is the working memory. It goes from 6GB to 8GB. It remains to be seen what exactly Apple needs this upgrade for, but it could have to do with the new pressicoop camera.
