Aprilia shows electric future with ELECTRICa project

Kawasaki may have led the way with the announcement of 2 EV and 1 HEV model for 2023, but at the EICMA in Milan, Aprilia also showcased its vision for the electric future with the ELECTRICA concept model.

Aprilia shows electric future with ELECTRICa project

The ELECTRICa project represents Aprilia’s vision of mobility for the youngest riders of the near future, which should provide new generations with the security of riding a motorcycle in any environment and without barriers.

As with the introduction of the 660 platform, which, according to Aprilia, met the demands of the youngest generation of motorcyclists with high-quality, light and above all fun motorcycles, the ELECTRICa is an original and brand new project from Aprilia dedicated to the next generation.

The ELECTRICa project uses all the know-how made available by the Piaggio Group (of which Aprilia is part), which has been working on electric propulsion since 1975 and has introduced quite a few vehicles over the years, such as the MP3 Hybrid, the world’s first hybrid scooter.

The enormous possibilities that digitization and networking bring are radically changing lifestyles for everyone. As more and more activities can be performed remotely, the commuting needs are also changing, but unrestricted movement remains a necessity, especially among the youngest.

The exhilarating driving experience that only a motorcycle can provide cannot be virtually replaced or reproduced. The ELECTRICa project is a new concept – a light, emission-free bicycle that should offer maximum freedom and driving pleasure, even for use in the cities of the future.

Aprilia says that the fun and freedom of motorcycling will always be the main criteria of all motorcycles that will be built by Aprilia, the sports bike factory par excellence, and therefore will not be lacking electrically.

The look is unmistakably Aprilia, especially at the front, where a modern interpretation of the triple headlight cluster typical of all Aprilias stands out and favors clean and distinctly sporty lines.

Accessibility is guaranteed by its compact dimensions and low seat height, but also by its light weight and the presence of both the front and rear brakes on the handlebars, a choice that makes the transition from scooters easier.

The electric motor is centrally placed and drives the rear wheel via a chain. The keyless ignition is an example of how the technology is mainly focused on practicalities, according to Aprilia, as electronic aids make driving safer.
