Next week is the day: Black Friday 2022. It came over from the United States and has long since ceased to be linked to just one day. The commercial holiday is a discount feast for the consumer, but it is not always as beautiful as it seems.
WANT editor Mark Hofman does not want you to be faced with surprises next week. That is why he lists the five most important things about the action for you.
Black Friday 2022: 5 important things to know
Officially, Black Friday 2022 is a commercial holiday taking place on Friday, November 25, 2022. However, practice shows us that things have gone so far that a week before that day the discount is already flying around your ears. Not only in the United States, but certainly also in the Netherlands.
To prepare you perfectly for this majestic and (sometimes) dangerous day, I’ll list five things about Black Friday 2022. Not only a piece of background and motivation, but also a warning.

#1 Where does Black Friday actually come from?
In 2022, Black Friday is a term that we almost all know. But where does the name, and the action itself, come from?
To understand that, we have to go back to the 1950s. In Philadelphia (United States) the name was used by the police. It was aimed at the gigantic traffic congestion that occurs on the Friday after Thanksgiving (a major holiday in the US).
This has to do with the fact that employees in America are off on this day. Since this usually doesn’t happen very often in the United States, this is also the time when most people do their shopping for Christmas. A great moment for shopkeepers to stunt with a discount, so that as many people as possible walk into their store.
The two were linked together and voila! A holiday was born.
#2 Research is key
Shopkeepers have been stunting for years with a discount on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Very nice for the consumer, but it also ensures that people can no longer see the wood for the trees. Black Friday requires some research to make the most of it.
You have to do that research in different areas. It is good to see which items you need, for example, from which brands you want them and how much they cost during your preparation.
#3 Black Friday is also dangerous
So Black Friday is a wonderful way to save some money. And with the right research you will undoubtedly succeed. You have to, because it can also be an extremely dangerous day.
Retailers do everything they can to get as many consumers as possible to their store. That is why many of them sometimes make the offers a little more beautiful than they actually are. For example, by raising the suggested retail price in the days before Black Friday.
So be careful and critical. An offer can look great on paper, but it is always good to see if the discount is actually as great as it initially seems.

#4 Create your accounts right away
It’s important to start your Black Friday bargain hunting early. That is why it is a good idea to make a list for yourself of the online stores where you would like to shop.
To be fully prepared, it is important that you already create accounts for those webshops. There are a lot of offers during Black Friday, but also a lot of people who want to make the most of them. So make sure you can act as soon as possible when the time comes.
#5 Your own wishlist is extremely important
That fast action is also part of a clear wishlist. This way you not only know which products you should keep a close eye on, but you also make sure that you don’t buy too much stuff.
Black Friday is usually a huge load of discount that you as a consumer get dumped on you. So make sure you don’t buy yourself completely cross-eyed and buy products that you really don’t need. Make a wishlist and stick to it.
