Corsa Electric and Mokka Electric replace Corsa-e and Mokka-e
The brand new very first electric Opel Astra is called Astra Electric and not Astra-e. That is striking, because the electric versions of the Corsa and Mokka are successively called Corsa-e and Mokka-e.
It is a bit of a struggle for every car manufacturer what it calls its electric versions of models that you can also get with combustion engines. For example, Peugeot chooses to stick an ‘e-‘ before the model name, as with the e-208 and the new e-308. Opel also adds an -e to the model names of electric models to date. For example, the Corsa-e and Mokka-e are successively the electric versions of the Corsa and the Mokka. But it won’t stay that way for long.
The brand new electric version of the Opel Astra is not called Astra-e, but Astra Electric. According to the same strategy, the Corsa-e and Mokka-e will soon be called Corsa Electric and Mokka Electric and Opel will soon rename the Zafira-e Life into Zafira Electric Life. The new Electric part of the model names may indicate more clearly that it is a fully electric version.
The Opel Corsa is about to be facelifted. AutoWeek aims for the electric Corsa-e to go through life as a Corsa Electric after the side session. The Mokka is a year younger than the Corsa, so it will be a while before that crossover is renewed. Unlike the Corsa, the Opel Vizor front already has that car, so the need to facelift the model is not that great for Opel. We therefore expect that the name change from the Mokka-e to Mokka Electric will not coincide with a facelift. Just like the Corsa, the electric Mokka does have a revised electric powertrain. After all, technical brother Peugeot e-208 recently received it. Adjusting the model name of that car can make Opel coincide nicely with the arrival of that improved powertrain.
