KTM has given the 1290 Super Adventure S a minor update for 2023. However, the changes are not really shocking, in addition to new colors, KTM has improved the navigation via the KTMConnect app.
Those who had hoped that KTM would have given the 1290 Super Adventure a mega upgrade will probably be disappointed, but the days when an engine was upgraded every two years and a new generation was launched every four years are long gone.
Lead times of five years (or even longer) have become the rule rather than the exception these days, so we will increasingly have to make do with just a different color in the meantime, or as in the case of the 2023 1290 Super Adventure S, new colors and improved software of the navigation in the 7″ TFT color display.
Now, during the introduction of the last generation in 2021, we had nothing to complain about in terms of user-friendliness and readability of the display, adjusting all items to be set (Driving modes, ABS settings, WP semi-active suspension and adaptive cruise control) was really child’s play, but the navigation could not be used at the time and therefore no judgment could be made about it.
For 2023, however, KTM has aimed for more usability. Adventure riders can now count on extra options when navigating. The KTMConnect app now offers Turn-by-Turn+ guidance and waypoint markings while on the go, without having to stop and adjust your smartphone.
The same functionality also extends to audio tracks and a list of ‘favorites’ when it comes to phone calls. According to KTM, hands on the handlebars do not only mean making more kilometers, but above all doing so in a safe way with pleasant interaction with the bike.
Other than that, the 2023 version is the same as the existing model, with 160 hp and 138 Nm of torque from the thick LC8 V-twin, with adjustable traction control, wheelie control, anti-dive, tire pressure management, a quickshifter + and WP Suspension Pro.
The 2023 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S will be available from January 2023. How much it will cost is not yet known.
