Suzuki Jimny now also as a five-door!

Already at the beginning of 2020, the first rumors surfaced about the possible arrival of a longer Suzuki Jimny. It would not only be longer, but also have five and instead of three doors. A year later, a packed prototype of the longer and therefore more practical Suzuki Jimny was actually caught. We are now another year further and it is time for the five-door Suzuki Jimny to show its face.

The new variant of the Suzuki Jimny measures 3.99 meters in length in India. That length was chosen for a reason. Cars with a maximum length of 4 meters are taxed less heavily. The regular ‘short’ Jimny exists in two flavors worldwide. For example, in Europe – depending on the version – it is 3.55 to 3.65 meters long and it always has a wheelbase of 2.25 meters. In Japan there is also a kei-car version with narrower wheel arches and a shorter length (3.4 metres). The five-door Jimny is of course the largest of the bunch. The wheelbase is also longer at 2.59 meters. It saves no less than 34 centimeters! As a five-door, the Jimny not only gets a set of doors, but also an extra side window.

Suzuki also currently builds the Jimny in India, but the copies produced there are all destined for export. For the first time, Suzuki is now also marketing the Jimny in India, so only as a five-door. Since last year, the Jimny in the Netherlands is only for sale as a Jimny Professional. This is a business-oriented version with only two seats. However, due to its small dimensions, it does not qualify for a gray license plate. This longer five-seater version may well come after a conversion, and that may make the car interesting again for the Dutch market!
