As part of the 100th anniversary, BMW has announced the arrival of a new model on social media. Almost everyone is convinced that it must be the new long-awaited R 1300 GS.

This year it is exactly 100 years ago that the very first BMW motorcycle, the R32, rolled off the production line at the factory in Berlin. Reason for the Germans to go all out this year and how better than to come up with a successor to their most successful model ever, the GS, which has been the undefeated king in the fat Reise Enduro segment since the launch of the first 1200.
Eighteen months ago, that successor was already spotted in the wild during test work, suggesting the name R 1300 GS. Judging by those photos, the prototype already seemed to be in an advanced stage, hinting at a launch in 2023. Partly because the new Euro5b standard will come into force in 2024, which will entail stricter noise and emission requirements, among other things.
A GS can certainly be deduced from the contours of the engine, which is still hidden under a cover, and judging by the reactions, almost everyone is convinced of this, but it could also be the very first M version of the GS, the also hinted M 1300 GS.
However, exactly what model is hiding under the sheet is unknown, nor do we know exactly what that model will look like and when the engine will be revealed. The picture says “COMING 2023” and we don’t get much wiser from the accompanying text either.
The accompanying text reads: “The #100YearsBMWMotorrad celebrations have already begun and we can’t wait to reveal what else we have in store for you!…Take a guess at what’s to come and stay tuned.”
