No electric supercar for the next 5 or 6 years
Rimac has the Nevera, Automobili Pininfarina the Battista and you can soon turn to Lotus for the fully electric Evija. You don’t have to expect an electric supercar from Lamborghini in the short term.
From now on, every new or modified model Lamborghini introduces will have an electrified powertrain. Electrified, so not fully electric. The successors to both the Huracán and Aventador will receive electrical support to a certain extent and the Urus will eventually be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Lamborghini will also come with a fully electric model in 2028, but that will not be a supercar. That is what Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Lamborghini tells Motor1.
At the end of last year, Lamborghini confirmed that it will launch its first fully electric car in 2028. That electric Lambo would not replace one of the current models, but would be an addition to Lamborghini’s delivery range. The brand already showed an image on which the electric newcomer was parked under a cloth. It became clear that it is a new low model, but according to Lamborghini’s CTO, it will not be an electric supercar. “It’s not the time for that now. And it probably won’t be in the next five or six years.” Mohr does not see an extremely sporty electric model for the time being because Lamborghini wants to prevent a high car weight – caused by, among other things, the battery pack. In addition, Mohr does not want an extremely sporty electric Lamborghini to depend on the battery charge level or its temperature for its performance. “In the supercar segment, a hybrid powertrain with an internal combustion engine is still the best option,” said Mohr.
As previously announced, the first electric Lamborghini to appear in 2028 will be a two-door 2+2 with relatively high ground clearance. Not an SUV, but more like a crossover.
