Ferrari CEO: ‘Tesla has shaken up the car industry’

Ferrari and Tesla have little in common, yet Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna speaks out about the American EV brand. According to him, Tesla has brought about something important, the consequences of which are also being felt at Ferrari.

Teslas can also shoot like crazy from 0 to 100 km / h, but with that the similarities with Ferrari have been mentioned. The main differences are of course that Ferrari likes to use thick combustion engines and that it builds cars in a more traditional way. Nevertheless, Tesla is an example for a brand like Ferrari, says CEO Benedetto Vigna. “Tesla’s biggest contribution to the auto industry has been to shake it up,” he says Bloomberg. “It was all too slow. Tesla has shaken up the industry.”

Vigna believes Tesla has put pressure on other automakers to change faster. “Tesla has accelerated processes and decisions, they were faster and could switch faster.” So now even Ferrari has to ‘believe’ in it, because although an electric Ferrari was still unthinkable ten years ago, it will come in two years. Vigna does make sure that the character of Ferrari is not lost with an electric powertrain. “We have to make sure that we can get emotion out of this technology, to give the customer something unique.” How exactly he sees that in front of him, the Italian still leaves in the middle. One thing is certain: with Vigna, a progressive man is at the helm of Ferrari. “I put a lot of emphasis on sustainability.”

By 2030, Ferrari’s all-electric offering should make up 40 percent of the sales mix and hybrids another 40 percent. Models with a pure combustion engine then only account for 20 percent of sales, the brand expects. That’s quite a change, because now hybrid Ferraris account for about 20 percent of the range and the rest only has an internal combustion engine.
