Lucid Air Pure RWD: Initial specifications of the entry-level model

The first specifications and the US price of the Lucid Air Pure RWD, the entry-level model of the Lucid Air line-up, have been announced. The cheaper rear-wheel drive version of the Pure comes just a little less far than the four-wheel drive variant. Since rear-wheel drive models are usually more efficient, this would indicate a smaller battery pack, although nothing is known about this (yet).

The two-wheel drive entry-level model of the Lucid Air, the Pure RWD, can travel up to 400 miles on a single charge on the US EPA test cycle. This is evident from an email – seen by AutoEvolution – that Lucid sent around to potential customers for the ‘basic version’. Please note: the EPA cycle is stricter than the WLTP cycle, so according to the measurement method applicable in Europe, the theoretical range would be greater.

What is striking is that the range of the rear-wheel drive variant with one electric motor is smaller than that of the Pure with four-wheel drive. We recently found out about that what the maximum EPA range would be: 660 km. One electric motor is lighter and more efficient than two, so the AWD’s wider range could indicate the presence of a larger battery pack on that variant. We do not yet know the capacity for both the AWD and RWD version.

Performance

What we do know is preliminary US pricing for the Pure in both AWD and RWD form. The RWD is a lot cheaper with a starting price of $87,600 than the AWD with a starting price of $94,550. Finally, the mail intercepted by Auto Evolution contains some previously unknown specifications of the Pure RWD. We see that the maximum power is 430 hp and the maximum torque is 550 Nm. Those values are good for a 0 to 100 sprint of 4.4 seconds. We expect to hear more about the entry-level Lucid Air soon, which should also be coming to Europe via Lucid’s official channels.
