You should always leave a homepod or homepod mini with the plug in the socket. But how much power does a homepod (mini) actually consume?
A HomePod (Mini) uses so much power
The HomePod (€ 343.95) and the HomePod Mini (€ 109) are actually always listening to speech assignments. That is handy, because this way you can easily set up some music or check it out again by calling through your house. That means that the speaker must always stick to the current.

That of course has a disadvantage, because the HomePod always uses some power. But how much that is is still on how you use the HomePod (Mini). To calculate the total power consumption of a HomePod (Mini) per year, we assume an average user who uses the speaker for about two hours a day.
When you use the HomePod (Mini) for two hours a day, there is 22 hours a day in which it is in standby. This provides the following information for the HomePod 2023:
- 365 days a year;
- Play 2 hours a day;
- 22 hours of standby;
- 8.28 Watt during playback, 50% volume (according to This environmental report from Apple);
- 1.04 Watt in standby.
And for the HomePod Mini
- 365 days a year;
- Play 2 hours a day;
- 22 hours of standby;
- 1.28 Watt during playback, 50% volume (according to This environmental report from Apple);
- 0.71 Watt in standby.

The power consumption of the HomePod 2023 is therefore as follows:
- 365 x 2 x 8.28 = 6044.4 Wh (Wattuur) during playback;
- 365 x 22 x 1.04 = 8351.2 WH during standby
In total, the amount of electricity that the HomePod 2023 consumes in one year will then come to: 6044.4 + 8351.1 = 14395.6 Wh. The power price is currently average About 0.27 euros per kWh (March 2025). Note: this price varies regularly.
That means that for a HomePod 2023 a year you can 3.89 euros spend on electricity.
The power consumption of the HomePod Mini is as follows:
- 365 x 2 x 1.28 = 934.4 WH (Wattuur) during playback;
- 365 x 22 x 0.71 = 5701.3 WH during standby
Total the power consumption of one year with the HomePod Mini then comes out on: 934.4 + 5701.3 = 6635.7 Wh. With a power price of 0.27 euros per kWh you are then 1.79 euros Lost on electricity per year.
Please note: the first generation of homepod was never officially for sale in the Netherlands and it also consumes something more. The power costs in that smart speaker are also somewhat higher.
