Humanity is fighting the corona virus – and is facing unprecedented challenges. With a letter, an American provides a new perspective on the global crisis.
“Stop. Just stop ”- this is how the“ imaginary letter from Covid-19 to humanity ”begins, written by Kirstin Flyntz. The corona virus forces us to stop. “It is no longer a request. It is an order. “
The letter provides a new perspective on the crisis: Flyntz sees the virus as a warning to the world – but also as an opportunity. “We will help you,” says the virus in the letter.
“We will stop the supersonic high-speed carousel. We will stop the planes, trains, schools, shopping centers, meetings. The hectic, angry frenzy of illusions and ‘commitments’ that keep you from hearing our only and shared beating heart. ”
The letter commemorates the recent catastrophes
The aim of the interruptions: “To bring you this special message: We are not doing well. None of us. We all suffer. ”The letter lists various catastrophes that have hit mankind recently: The firestorms in the lungs of the earth, typhoons in Africa, China, Japan, feverish climate in India. “You weren’t listening. It’s difficult to listen when you’re busy. “
“But we will help you,” says Covid-19 in the letter. “We will bring the firestorms into your bodies, we will bring the fever into your bodies […] so that you might hear: We are not doing well. “
The video for the letter went viral
Kristin Flyntz published the letter on Facebook in mid-March. In the meantime, there is a video in which a spokeswoman presents the letter in a modified form in Italian. The Italian language gives the words an additional urgency – Italy is particularly badly affected by the corona virus. The clip was viewed more than 600,000 times (as of March 24th).
The real threat is not the corona virus, the text conveys. “We are not the enemy. We are ambassadors. Allies […] We ask you to stop, be quiet and listen. To move beyond individual concerns and to consider everyone’s concerns. […] Looking up at the sky, which is crossed by fewer aircraft, noticing its condition: clear, hazy, smoky, rainy? How much do you need him to be healthy so that you stay healthy too?
An effect of the corona crisis: better air, dolphins in ports
The measures against the Corona crisis have already brought about some changes in our environment. Satellite images show that air quality is changing in Italy and China improved has the consequence if there are no more holiday trips by plane, factories are shut down and fewer people drive a car. In Sardinia, dolphins were spotted in a port for the first time in years:
But the price is high: hundreds of thousands of people worldwide have been infected with Covid-19, thousands have died of the consequences – and an end to the crisis is not in sight. We consider the virus like Flyntz to be an “ally” is inappropriate.
The influence of humans has become visible
On the other hand, the current situation actually shows what influence humans have on the earth: Now that we have to limit our lifestyle extremely, we see how the environment recovers. Rivers become cleaner, the air cleaner and animals come out of theirs Hiding out.
But just because the corona virus makes this clear to us, you cannot understand this pandemic as a savior – as the Flyntz letter and the accompanying video do in places. Because it costs human lives, jobs and causes great damage. Nevertheless, the “Letter from the Corona Virus” made us think – how are you? Write to us in the comments!
