Doubling for fast and dangerous driving behavior

Last year, 10 percent more traffic offenders visited the CBR for a mandatory course. The number of speeders in particular rose sharply.
The CBR (Central Driving License Office) calculates that last year a total of 24,000 people showed such dangerous driving behavior that they had to report for further investigation. Most had a problem with alcohol, others drove dangerously or were behind the wheel while taking drugs. According to the CBR, the increase is mainly due to the introduction of new courses. One has been added especially for people who drive under the influence of drugs. It was imposed 2,000 times. The other new course is a short course on traffic behavior, mainly intended for motorists who have been caught by the police for driving far too fast. A total of 5,500 people had to take a course for speeding and dangerous behavior, more than doubling compared to a year earlier.
The number of extreme speed drivers among the latter group (2,275 people) is particularly worrying for CBR director Alexander Pechtold. This concerns people who have exceeded the speed limit by more than fifty km/h. “Every year I am shocked that thousands of people come to us,” it says A.D on. “But where we see fewer and fewer people who drink too much, the number of speeders is increasing rapidly and that is particularly worrying. This is not about people who are not paying attention, who overtake a little too quickly. This has to do with determine what responsibility you take on the road.”
It is the CBR’s task to make it clear to these people that their behavior does not benefit them. Pechtold: “We try not to punish people, but to give them insight into why dangerous driving behavior is not okay. That driving very fast does not mean that you arrive much earlier, but at most a few minutes of time saved on an hour’s drive. results.” The course for extreme speed drivers lasts three days and costs almost €850. These costs are in addition to the fine. Some courses are even (much) more expensive.
