74 percent of Dutch people accept privacy terms from websites and apps without reading them and 70 percent of Dutch people allow all cookies on most websites.

A survey by Orange Cyberdefense among 1,100 Dutch people shows that almost three quarters (74%) of the Dutch accept privacy terms and conditions of websites and apps without reading them. The biggest reason is that privacy terms are way too long to read. No fewer than nine in ten respondents (89%) stated this as the reason.

Too complicated
Another important reason for many Dutch people to accept the privacy conditions without reading them is that they find the conditions too complicated. No less than 65 percent of the Dutch state this as the reason.

Allowing cookies is also easily allowed by Dutch website visitors. About 70 percent allow all cookies on most websites. Despite the fact that we accept and share everything with websites and apps, only a little more than a fifth of the Dutch think that companies handle their data properly.

Jort Kollerie, Head of Security Consulting & Ethical Hacking at Orange Cyberdefense: “If you don’t read carefully, a company can easily share your data with third parties.”
