Apple has announced the iPhone 15 Pro (Max), the first iPhone with an action button. These are all the functions of the new feature!
New action button introduced
We finally know everything about this year’s new iPhone, because Apple has officially announced the iPhone 15. There are a number of cool features coming to the iPhone 15, including a completely new action button. The new button replaces the mutebutton, the switch that we have found for years above the volume buttons of the iPhone. Apple is finally saying goodbye to this switch with the iPhone 15 Pro.

Instead, the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) has an action button. We previously saw a similar button on the Apple Watch Ultra and is now coming to the iPhone for the first time. With the new iPhone you can decide for yourself which action is performed when you press the button. This means you no longer have to unlock the iPhone and go to a specific app. Apple has now finally revealed all the features of the new feature.
This is how the action button of the iPhone 15 Pro works
With the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) you can set what happens when you press the action button. You can choose from a certain number of actions, which have been pre-selected by Apple. This is the same as the Apple Watch Ultra (2), but on the iPhone 15 you can add other functions to the button. These are the following:
- Sound off
- Focus
- Camera
- Flashlight
- Dictaphone
- Translate
- Magnifying glass
- Assignments
- Accessibility
With the action button of the iPhone 15 Pro (Max), you are limited to these nine functions. However, this is not entirely the case, because via shortcuts in Assignments, much more is probably possible with the new button. For this you must download the shortcut on your iPhone, useful new tasks will probably appear soon for the action button in the Assignments app.
This is when the new iPhone will appear
To perform the function you must press and hold the action button. In this way, Apple tries to prevent you from accidentally activating the button. Previous rumors predicted that the button would work with Haptic Touch and would not be a physical button. This now appears to be incorrect, because you can press the action button. The new button therefore works the same as the volume buttons.

It is quite possible that more functions will be added to the action button later, so the translation function will only be available later on the iPhone 15 Pro (Max).
