Especially for video calling and online meetings, you can use Presenter overlay during video calls. This is not only possible in FaceTime, but also other video calling apps such as Zoom.
Presenter overlay keeps you in view when you share your screen. You can choose from a large or small overlay. In the large one you remain in the foreground, with your screen in a separate layer of the image. You can then move, walk and talk while your presentation is visible behind you.
Presenter overlay during video calling
Do you want to share the screen of your Mac during a FaceTime video call, or during an online meeting in Zoom, for example? This can now be done with a handy overlay.
With Presenter Overlay, macOS keeps you in view when you share your screen. You can choose from a large or small overlay. In the large one you remain in the foreground, with your screen in a separate layer of the image. You can then move, walk and talk while your presentation is visible behind you.
If you choose the small overlay, you will be seen in a round frame over the shared screen during your presentation. You can put yourself in your place and personally point out what you find important.
Activate overlay
We’ll use FaceTime as an example, but the feature is also available in Zoom and may be added to more video calling apps later.
- Start a FaceTime video call
- Click on the green FaceTime icon in the menu bar
- Select the screen share icon
- Choose to share a window or full screen
- Choose between small or large on presenter overlay
- Change the shared screen if necessary
You can now show the actions on the screen to your conversation partners and remain in the picture yourself. If the focus is on the screen, choose a small overlay. If you want to convey more of a message and reinforce this with a presentation or other images, you can use the large version. You can easily switch between the different views via the FaceTime icon in the menu bar.
Share windows
During a video call you can share one or even multiple apps, directly from the corresponding window. To do this, place the mouse pointer on the green dot at the top of an application window. Then choose ‘Share on’. Immediately the window is shared in the video call.
Adjust composition at midpoint
If you use your Studio Display or iPhone as a webcam, you can easily choose the ideal composition. You can adjust the frame with the zoom and pan controls, and with one press of a button you automatically place yourself in the middle of the screen.
To do this, click on the FaceTime icon in the menu bar and then choose ‘Center’. Once the option is enabled, you can click Center Point again to manage it further. You can choose ‘Wide’ or ‘Extra wide’. Of course, you always remain in the center of the image.
