Activate Geofence in the Eufy security app

In the Eufy Security app, Geofencing is a handy way to automatically adjust a camera’s security mode. Various functions can be activated or deactivated based on your GPS location.

The Eufy app gives you the option to activate the ‘Home’ or ‘Away’ schedule based on Geofence. This can also take into account whether multiple users are within the set area.

What is geofencing?

On an iPhone, apps can use geofencing thanks to the built-in GPS receiver for location determination. With the help of geofencing you can define virtual boundaries, for example a radius of 1 KM around your house. If you are outside this radius, you can activate or deactivate a certain action.

If you use camera security, you can choose to have the indoor cameras automatically record when you are outside the set area. When you are within the defined area, this is often not necessary and you can switch it off automatically.

Geofencing therefore makes it possible to carry out automatic actions based on your location and a set area. You don’t have to do anything yourself for this, the app that uses it takes care of this completely automatically.

Setting up geofence for a Eufy camera

To control a Eufy camera based on Geofence, you must activate this function. You can set this up by following the steps below:

Open the Eufy security app and tap the ‘Security’ tab.
Under ‘Device control’, choose the camera, home base or other device for which you want to activate geofence.
After the device has been selected, an overview of the available modes will appear. In addition to home, away, disabled and schedule, you will also find the Geofencing mode here.
Tap the radar symbol next to geofencing, this will open the settings page.
The map shows your current location and the blue radius button allows you to select an area (small, medium or large). If your location is incorrect, tap the crosshair symbol at the bottom right of the map view. You can give the currently found location a name, so that it is easier to recognize in the app.

If multiple devices (and people) use the camera, you can indicate which devices use geofencing. If one person is in the set area, Geofencing switches the security mode to home mode. When everyone is outside the area, Geofencing switches the security mode to away mode.
Select which mode should be activated inside and outside the geofence area. In most cases this will be ‘Away’ if you are not in the area and ‘Present’ if you are within the area.
After all settings are completed, tap the ‘Save’ button at the top right of the screen.
The final step is to activate ‘Geofencing’ by tapping it in the mode overview. The button will then turn blue to indicate that it is active.

After completing these steps, the security mode will be automatically set based on geofence.

Troubleshoot geofencing issues in the Eufy app

The Eufy app indicates that geofencing is still in the beta phase. As a result, there may still be bugs in the function that prevent it from working 100% as intended.

If you cannot activate geofencing, check whether the Eufy Security app is allowed to use your location data. You can check this via the iOS settings ▸ Eufy Security. Under ‘location’, select ▸ ‘Always’.
