In Apple’s Maps app it is possible to save locations and places to personal guides or mark them as favorites. As a user you also have the option to link a note to a specific place, ideal for keeping important information about this place.
In the note you can enter all the information you want to remember about this location. The note is only visible to yourself, so you have complete freedom in what you write down there. We explain how to use this hidden option in Maps for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Add locations to your library
Before we talk about how to associate notes with a place, you might want to mention how you can add locations to guides in your library.
- Open a location on the map
- An information window opens
- Tap and click on the three dots
- Choose ‘Put in Guides’
- Select an existing or new guide
Do you want to save a place faster? Then tap or click the plus button at the top of the info card and the location will immediately be saved to your favorites. You can read more information in the highlighted article below.
Add notes to locations
Saving locations offers an additional benefit: you get the option to add a hidden note to each saved spot. After saving a location, the ‘Add a note’ option will appear in the info card.
In the note you can enter all the information you want to remember about this location. The note is only visible to yourself, so you have complete freedom in what you write down there. For example:
- Practical information, such as WiFi password or parking options
- A special dish that you do not want to miss in a restaurant or that is tasty
- Own impressions of a place, for example after a visit.
- Reminders, tips or instructions for yourself, for example about the most convenient entrance to a building or how to use a certain bell.
Link a note to a place
Linking notes is possible from iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia or newer.
- Open a location on the map
- An information window opens
- Tap and click on the three dots
- Choose ‘Add a note’
In addition, after saving a location, the ‘Add a note’ option appears in the info card directly below the most important information, so that you have the note function quickly at hand. This is also where you will find the note.
