Since macOS Sonoma, Safari has gained some useful new features. One of these features is the ability to add a website to the Dock. This gives you the ability to open your favorite websites with a single click from the Dock.
The new feature opens the website in a minimalist web app window, meaning the standard Safari menu bars are not displayed. All the attention of the window is focused on the website.
Add a Website to the macOS Dock
To add a website to the Dock, you must have macOS 14 Sonoma or later installed on your Mac. If so, use the steps below:
- Go to your favorite website (for example appletips.nl).
- Click on the share icon to the right of the address/search bar in Safari (square with an up arrow)
- In the menu that appears, select the option ‘Add to Dock’
The website has been added to the Dock.
Move website icon within the Dock
The website will appear on the right in the Dock. If you want to change its position, that is also possible. Click on the icon, hold the mouse button and drag it to the desired location in the Dock.
Assign a website to a specific desktop
A website added to the Dock can also be assigned to a specific desktop if you want. To do this, open it with a secondary click on the website icon (right mouse button or click with two fingers on the trackpad).
In the menu that appears, click on options and make a choice under ‘Assign to’. This can be ‘all desktops’, ‘this desktop’ or ‘none’. The last option is the default setting.
Remove website icon from the Dock
If you want to remove the icon from the Dock, you do it the same way you remove an app. Click and hold the website icon, then drag the icon above half of your screen. When ‘Remove’ appears above the icon, you can release the button and the shortcut is removed.
