Since iPadOS 18.1 it is possible to use a handy tab bar on an iPad. Unfortunately, the new tab bar cannot be used in all apps, but you can see it in the TV app, App Store, Clock, Books, Podcasts, etc.
In some apps, including the TV application, it is even possible to adjust the tab bar to your personal preferences. This way you can remove or add some parts for faster operation. Of course with the necessary restrictions.
iPad Tab Bar
You may not have seen the tab bar yet, because not all applications use the new tab bar. In fact, in some apps, including the TV app, the tab bar is only visible when you use the iPad horizontally. Landscape view uses only the sidebar. In some other apps, such as the App Store, it is also visible in landscape orientation. Confusing.
Customize iPad tab bar
As a user you can change the tab bar and add or remove items. Apple wouldn’t be Apple by limiting this. You can’t remove important features like Apple TV+, but you can add or remove other options if desired.
- Open the TV app
- Turn your iPad horizontally
- Tap the sidebar icon
- Tap Edit in the sidebar
- Drag the desired items out or into the tab bar
You can apply this not only in the TV app, but also in other applications that use this interactive tab bar, even third-party apps. However, not all applications allow you to customize the tab bar.
Would you like to try it out in another Apple application? Then you can use the Music app for this. In this application it is even possible to add playlists to the tab bar.
In the TV app you not only have access to Apple TV+ series and films, but also content from other streaming services such as HBO Max, ViaPlay and Prime.
