AIM EV Sport 01: electric lightweight sports coupe from Japan

New electric models of new car brands currently mainly come from China. That makes this new electric sports coupe from Japan extra refreshing. It’s called AIM EV Sport 01, it’s quite potent and also relatively light!

During the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the equally ambitious and young Japanese company AIM will present its first car to the world public. Its full name is AIM EV Sport 01 and, as its name implies, it is fully electric. The EV Sport 01 is officially still a concept car and it does not look fully ready for production yet. The EV Sport 01 has a striking ‘convex’ design, has butterfly doors as you know from Lamborghini and is topped with a subtle retro sauce.

The AIM EV Sport 01 is only 3.9 meters short, making it another 30 centimeters shorter than an Alpine A110. It is 1.2 meters high, 1.9 meters wide and has a wheelbase of 2.4 meters. Each rear wheel is powered by a separate electric motor. The twin-engine muscle bundle produces 490 hp and 740 Nm. There is a battery pack in the bottom that has a considerable capacity of 81 kWh. Yet the EV Sport 01 is not a heavyweight like many electric cars. On the contrary. He weighs ‘only’ 1,425 kilos. The two-seater owes its relatively low weight to its basis: an aluminum tube frame to which body parts made of carbon fiber are attached.

Officially, the EV Sport 01 is still a study model and a showcase of what the Japanese company AIM is capable of technologically. Initially it would stay at that, but AIM indicates that it is investigating whether it can take the car into production in a small series.
