AirPods Pro 2 new features (but not everyone gets them)

The AirPods Pro 2 get a few new features, but unfortunately they’re not for everyone. This is what’s going on!

AirPods Pro 2 get new features…

iOS 18.1 not only brings new features to your iPhone, the AirPods Pro 2 will also be updated. With this update, the popular earbuds get a number of new functions.

Apple is adding a Hearing Test function to the AirPods Pro 2. This allows you to check your hearing at home in a few minutes. After the test, you will see a summary and you will have a personal hearing profile for your AirPods Pro 2. This overview is then saved in the Health app.

Furthermore, Apple announced the Hearing Aid feature. This allows you to use the AirPods Pro 2 as a kind of hearing aid. After you have completed a hearing test, the earplugs can, among other things, amplify environmental sounds. That hearing profile is then automatically adjusted to music, films, games and telephone calls on all your devices. You don’t have to change anything yourself.

…but not everyone gets them

Unfortunately, it seems that not every country will get the new features of the AirPods Pro 2. When you use the Apple website If you look at where the new features of the AirPods Pro 2 are explained, you will see an important footnote at the bottom of the page.

It states that the Hearing Test and Hearing Aid functions are expected in the autumn of 2024. At this time, the features are still pending approval from global health authorities. So you can be pretty sure that these features will be available here too.

It’s a different story with another new feature, the Hearing Protection feature. The AirPods Pro 2 prevent you from being exposed to loud environmental sounds, without significantly distorting what you hear. At the moment it says that the function is only available in America and Canada. The question is therefore whether and when the position will also come to the Netherlands.
