Initially, it seemed that the Chinese Aiways would bring its second model to Europe as early as 2021. However, the Aiways U6 took a little longer to arrive, but is now really as good as ready.
The Chinese Aiways entered the Dutch market in 2020 with the U5, a fully electric SUV of which it immediately sold 428 in the first year of sales. After that, however, it did not go so smoothly, because in 2021 the counter remained at 11 copies and this year only one was sold. An update that, among other things, ensures shorter loading times, should provide more momentum, although the price has gone up. It is therefore very important to Aiways that the new U6 attracts more customers to the showroom. The slightly smoother brother of the U5 is now almost ready for the European adventure. The run-up to this has been quite long, because in May 2021 we got to see the Aiways U6 from all angles. It was initially scheduled to hit the market that year.
The Aiways U6 clearly comes from the same nest as the U5, but distinguishes itself from its brother with a sloping roofline, somewhat more modest headlights and intakes, but also with a somewhat more modern interior. The infotainment screen in particular stands out in the U6. At 14.6 inches, that is clearly larger than that of the U5. On a technical level, the family ties are clear: the Aiways U6, like Aiways U5, has a 63 kWh battery pack. There it squeezes a little less driving range; 400 km (WLTP) versus 410 km on the U5. Remarkable, because often the SUVs with a sloping roofline are more efficient than their more conventional brothers.
A possible explanation is that the Aiways U6 is a bit stronger than the U5. The Aiways U6 has 218 hp, compared to 204 hp with the U5. It could also have something to do with the standard equipment. After all, the Aiways U6 will also be a bit higher in the market than the U5. The large panoramic roof, for example, undoubtedly already puts quite a bit of weight in the shell.

Aiways has now opened a special page on its website where European customers can indicate that they are interested in the U6, which will give you priority when Aiways opens the order books later this year. It is not yet known what the Aiways U6 will cost. The Aiways U5 is available from just over €40,000, you can bet that the Aiways U6 is clearly a step above that.
