Alfa Romeo CEO: ‘Doesn’t want to sell driving iPads’

Alfa Romeo has recently come under new leadership. Jean-Philippe Imparato came over from Peugeot to the Italian brand. The Frenchman has a distinct vision when it comes to the interiors of ‘his’ future cars.

With Alfa Romeo now part of the newly formed Stellantis concern, with a new CEO at the helm and an all-electric future awaiting, these are exciting times for fans of the brand. Fortunately, a new model is in the pipeline, the Tonale, which will eventually be joined by a smaller brother. While both of these herald a new era for the brand, some things remain more conservative in nature. For example, we can expect a fairly traditional dashboard in the Alfa Romeos of the near future. That is what CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato hints at.

In conversation with the French BFM Business he declares not to look jealously at new cars that are packed from head to toe with screens: “The driver is central to Alfa Romeo, with as few screens as possible. I don’t sell an iPad with a car around it, I sell an Alfa Romeo .” So we should not expect a screen spread over the entire dashboard, such as in the Mercedes-Benz EQE and EQS. Imparato also seems to suggest that analog operation at all remains fundamental for various things. According to the 55-year-old, Alfa Romeo is all about emotion and a pure experience of driving, even if the brand becomes fully electric. A ‘driving iPad’ does not fit in with that.
