With the previous generation of iPhones, only the Pro models had the Dynamic Island. With the arrival of the iPhone 15, this feature is available on all models. In this article you can read what you can do with it.
All iPhones now have a Dynamic Island
The Dynamic Island first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It replaces the notch (notch) in the screen that we know from all previous models. The Dynamic Island (which consists of two parts) can even change size when information is displayed. It is therefore no longer noticeable that there is a camera in the screen at that location.
With the arrival of the iPhone 15, all iPhones have the Dynamic Island. The feature not only looks very slick, it also performs a number of useful functions. We’ll show you what you can do with it!
Functions of the Dynamic Island
Depending on what you do with your iPhone, all kinds of messages will appear in the Dynamic Island. For example, you can see that your iPhone is connected to your AirPods (and also the battery level of your AirPods), or what music you are currently listening to. You can also expect things like a timer, an AirDrop connection and directions from Maps in the Dynamic Island.
If you want to see more information in the Dynamic Island, all you have to do is put your finger on it. It then becomes larger and displays more information. When you tap it, the corresponding app opens. For example, if you play music via Spotify, you will see the album cover in miniature in the Dynamic Island and also an equalizer icon. If you place your finger on it, the Spotify control panel will appear at that location.
Many Apple apps actively use the Dynamic Island. There are also apps from other developers that you will see in it, such as Spotify and Google Maps. Now that all iPhones have the Dynamic Island, it may become more interesting for app developers to make more use of it.
More activities at the same time
If two activities take place at the same time, the Dynamic Island divides into two (after all, it also consists of two parts). For example, you can chat with someone and keep an eye on your timer at the same time. Or you can see what music you are listening to and also how fast you are currently running. Place your finger on one of the activities for more information, or tap it to open the corresponding app.
Are there also disadvantages?
There is actually only one disadvantage to the Dynamic Island. Even though you usually don’t see it, a kind of recess remains visible that is also lower than the old notch. For example, if you watch a lot of YouTube videos, you will only see the Dynamic Island in the standard view as a small part of your screen, as you can see in the photo below.
