Behind the scenes of Windows 10 you will find the things that – according to Microsoft – cannot stand the light of day. Windows 10 is simplified per upgrade, so more and more features are disappearing from view. We think that is a shame. That is why we would like to show you how to conjure up many of those hidden possibilities again with the Windows 10 GodMode.
The ordinary Windows 10 user is unaware of the many hidden gems that are kept in the basement of this operating system. Compare that with works of art that – due to lack of interest – ended up in the depot; often the front porch of the rubbish dump. Previously it was more-more-more and from Windows 95 up to and including the first version (s) of Windows 10 it could not be done. One option after another option was introduced. But yes: the more options, the more possibilities, the more problems, the more annoyances. The solution: Slimming. As a result, the seasoned user sees his tricks disappear one by one …
Extended GodMode
We have already given you the GodMode van Windows 10 proposed; a trick to get to the underlying tools of the operating system. We are now taking things a step further with a utility called Extended GodMode. You will find this resource here. Extended GodMode is a serious extension of the regular version, which makes it possible to access many well-hidden system settings. With, for your peace of mind, knowing that the website www.virustotal.com releases the Extended GodMode software as one hundred percent secure. And that is not unimportant, because we are dealing here with software that sits on top of Windows 10 and that can therefore be potentially dangerous. The latter is therefore not the case.
If I were God
As soon as you start Extended GodMode, you are overloaded with a huge number of features of the program. And if you click on the menu option Others, you will see the sub-options Control Panel and Admin Tools, with even more options! Is it blasphemy to say that you imagine yourself to be God for a moment? In the meantime, you have seen that Extended GodMode is an extensive guide that will guide you to the right places within Windows 10. The amount of spots: “More than 250!” Let’s start with a rough program outline:
• Main window. Divided into practical categories, you will find all references to specific Windows 10 settings here. This main window is your starting point.
• Others, Control Panel. This is the sub-menu version of the regular Control Panel with the option to directly open the desired item.
• Others, Admin Tools. This is the submenu version of the regular System Administration. Again, you can jump directly to the desired item.
• Others, Open Classic GodMode. This is the GodMode that we showed earlier in Computer Idee. Is a tool with many possibilities, but more limited than Extended GodMode.
Numbering of the items
As you can see in Extended GodMode’s main window, the creators have numbered the myriad options. That’s handy, because it gives us some guidance. That’s why we use those numbers here to let you enjoy some of the nicest options the utility has to offer. Of course you can also click open all other options, because you will always find something that you have not seen before or that you have lost along the way.
4. Perform recommended maintenance tasks automatically
Click on number 4 to launch the System Maintenance utility of the same name; with that you can perform some maintenance tasks that may make Windows 10 function better. A point of extra attention are the Advanced options of this System Maintenance, because with them you can indicate that you want to have the maintenance tasks performed as Administrator.
10. View all problem reports
The Problem Reports utility will open and you will find out which programs have recently run into trouble; with a bit of luck things will be fine … For the foreseeable future, you can start with a clean slate by pressing the Clear All Problem Reports button. But we are not there yet, because there is also the More button, which shows the currently hidden problems (if there are any). And if you’re interested in the deeper details of a specific problem, you can double-click it to find out even more. In this way you can estimate what you can do to prevent the problem in the future. In many cases (read: as usual) this is an update of the faulty program.
20. Turn off automatic window arrangement
If you choose number 20, the window will open Make the mouse easier to use. That may seem like a mistake, but it is not. This option revolves around the Simplify window management component. Cleverly set, Windows 10 can be guided by the movements of the mouse, in order to quickly bring up the desired window at that moment. You can also check that windows should be automatically arranged when you move them to the edge of the screen. It is up to you to determine whether you like these options. Also take a look at the section Mouse pointers, because on a screen with a high resolution you will certainly want to use a mouse pointer that is more visible than the standard pointer.
27. View reliability history
The Reliability Checker system tool allows you to map your computer’s reliability history and problem history in detail. On a scale from 1 to 10 you can see how pleasant it was with your computer recently. All critical events, warnings and informational events can be individually clicked (and then double-clicked) to find out absolutely everything about what has passed.
58. Customize the Narrator’s voice
In Windows 10, you can have texts read on your screen by the so-called Narrator. If you have not used this option before, you will be taken to the corresponding homepage. With the Settings option on that homepage, which then lets you customize the Narrator’s voice (and more). It goes without saying that the Narrator is becoming increasingly important and better within Windows 10, so it is recommended that you get started with it!
85. Create a password reset disk
Too often Windows 10 users lose the password of their user account with all the consequences that entails. This problem can be tackled in one go by securing the current password on a USB stick. Don’t worry, it only costs 2 KB on that USB stick. So: Do ​​it!
102. Diagnosing memory problems of your computer
Does your computer suffer from unexplained problems? Then run the Windows Memory Check. It cannot be ruled out that memory problems are the cause of these inexplicable problems. Noting that memory problems do not always have to be hardware!
157. Managing network passwords
The ‘password’ phenomenon regularly drives many Computer Idee readers to great despair. Passwords, you can forget them, they can be hacked, etc … But before you get desperate, there is always the Credential Manager tool.
