Almost end of story for Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman

RS remains

Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman Style Editions

It’s almost over and done with for the Porsche 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster. At least, in Europe. Brand new copies of the Porsche duo will become unsaleable as of July, so Porsche will almost completely remove the duo from its European delivery range. Two extreme versions may remain.

At the end of 2023 it was announced that the Porsche Macan – the model without combustion engines – will disappear from the market in the European Union this year. Among other things, the Macan’s electronic architecture no longer meets the requirements set by the EU as of July 1 cybersecurity stilt. It would be considered too expensive to adapt that basis for the aging model. Something similar seems to apply to the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, according to reports from Motor1.

The Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are now also quite old and were therefore developed before the soon to come into effect requirements for digital ones and zeros were known. They will not be modernized for the EU market alone, which means that the pair will no longer be available to order new. New copies can no longer be registered in the EU after July 1. Stock cars that have already been registered will undoubtedly continue to be offered for a while. AutoWeek understands from Porsche that the GT4 RS and the Spyder RS may still remain.

Just as the Macan with combustion engines in Europe was followed by a fully electric model with the same name, the 718 will also have a fully electric replacement. In any case, our spy photographer has already had the electric Boxster variant in front of the lens.
