BMW Group is one car brand richer. The group is expanding its brand portfolio with Alpina, the brand that you know from the technically thoroughly overhauled BMWs.
If all authorities have approved the purchase of Alpina, BMW Group may call itself the owner of Alpina. It is not known what amount the BMW Group will pay to take control of Alpina. The purchase of Alpina brings the brand portfolio of the German group to five: BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce and Alpina.
You will undoubtedly know Alpina from the brand’s thoroughly overhauled 3, 5, 7 and 8 series. The company has a reputation for adapting BMW products in such a way that nothing is lost in pure speed, while flexibility and comfort only increase. Alpina returned to the Dutch market in 2021 and opened sales points in The Hague and Apeldoorn. Alpina currently sells its own versions of the 3-Series, 5-Series, 7-Series, X3, X7 and 8-Series, cars that are named B3, D3, B5 and B7. The B indicates that it is a car with a petrol engine, in the same way the D stands for the presence of a diesel engine.
Alpina says the transition to electromobility and the tightening requirements on safety systems are making it difficult for small manufacturers to survive. It is not surprising that the company from Buchloe indicates that it is pleased with the takeover. However, things are going to change. Until 2025, Alpina will continue to modify and sell cars in the current way. After that, Alpina’s current portfolio comes to an end, affecting Alpina’s home base in Buchloe. BMW says it will look for new workplaces for the employees who have to leave there. After 2025, the production of Alpina’s therefore seems to become ‘normal’ part of BMW’s portfolio.
