From niche brand to volume brand

Alpine was revived six years ago with the retro A110. Of course, very high sales figures are not yet achieved with that model, but Alpine wants to become more of a volume brand. New models should significantly increase sales.
Just six years ago, the A110 kicked off Alpine’s rebirth. Although that turned out to be quite a successful story and the A110 still appeals to the imagination of quite a few people, Alpine is slowly ready for something new. That’s coming too. Next year we will be introduced to the Alpine version of the new electric Renault 5. A year later, the Alpine GT X-Over will appear, most likely a sporty counterpart to the electric Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric. Then in 2026 we will be introduced to the new A110, which is also fully electric. Although Alpine is still in a sporting niche, according to Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, the intention is that the sales figures will be of a completely different order of magnitude.
Alpine sold more than 2,500 A110s last year, according to De Meo, the goal is to sell no less than 150,000 cars on an annual basis by 2030. He explains this in conversation with Automotive News. Although that is already a lot compared to now, no less than 60 times as much, it does not stop there. “Expanding the Alpine brand takes about twenty years, because you need two or three generations of the models,” said the Italian. De Meo also lets slip that there should be five or six different models at Alpine by 2030 and that not all of them will be related to other cars from the group. The new A110, for example, is already becoming a more ‘own’ project, where Alpine does hook up with Lotus, by the way.
According to De Meo, Alpine is well positioned to make it a success, because of synergy within the group. “It is close to Polestar, for example, because we use many (joint, ed.) parts, but there are also unique ones.” He illustrates that although the GT X-Over shares its basis with cars from Renault and Nissan, the rear axle, for example, will be different and the electric motor is not exactly the same.
