Always Show Menu Bar in Full Screen View on Mac

It has been possible for a while now to automatically hide the dock when you are not using it. This is also the case for the menu bar. If you use an application full screen, the menu bar is automatically hidden, you can disable this since macOS Monterey.

This allows you to choose to activate the menu bar in full-screen mode, so that you always have the application menu and other useful information in view. This way you always have access to the menu bar, settings and functions. This is especially useful and less distracting if you have a larger screen.

Show menu bar in full screen view

  • Open  â–¸ System Settings (from macOS Sonoma)
  • Click on ‘Control Panel’ in the navigation column
  • Scroll down to ‘Menu Bar Only’
  • Click on the dropdown menu next to ‘Automatically show/hide the menu bar’

The options are related to hiding the menu bar. You have the choice to hide it always, only on desktop, only in full screen, or never. Don’t see the change right away? Restart the app.

Always Show Menu Bar in Full Screen View on Mac

On macOS Ventura you can find this at  â–¸ System Preferences â–¸ Desktop & Dock â–¸ Menu Bar. If you have macOS Monterey installed, go to  â–¸ System Preferences â–¸ Dock & Menu Bar â–¸ click on ‘Dock & Menu Bar’ in the navigation column â–¸ Menu Bar. Now uncheck the option ‘Automatically show/hide menu bar in full screen view’.

From now on, the menu bar will always be shown in full-screen mode. Is the option enabled? Then the menu bar will only be shown when you move the pointer to the top of the screen while using full-screen mode.
