Apple has been offering support for Passkeys for several years. This is a new, safer way to log in to websites and apps without a password. From now on you can also use this on Facebook, but then you want to activate this first.
Instead of a password you use a unique digital key that is stored locally on your device. You unlock this key with biometric data (such as fingerprint or face recognition) or a pin code. We explain how it works.
Passkeys on Facebook
For some time, Facebook offers the opportunity to log in with passkeys instead of your username and password. You get access to your account or app using your biometric data (such as fingerprint or face recognition) or a pin code. Before we tell how you can activate this, we share more information about this new way of logging in.
Passkeys in short
Passkeys must ensure that you no longer have to use passwords. Instead, you scan your face or finger once while creating an account on a website or app. The scanned biometric characteristics are then converted into a unique code. This code is then stored encrypted in the iCloud key ring.

A passkey is much safer than logging in with a password. When you log in to a website or in an app, your password is sent via the internet to a server. Your password is therefore present on both your own device and the server of the website or app on which you want to log in.
Nevertheless, this given is protected, it regularly happens that hackers are lying out the entire user database of a server. This contains both the user names and the corresponding passwords. With Passkeys you don’t have this problem. You can read more explanation about Passkeys in the highlighted article below.
