Amsterdam metro bans advertisements for fuel cars

In Amsterdam they put a stop to advertisements for products related to fossil fuels. It starts in the metro, where, among other things, advertisements for cars with combustion engines will no longer be seen.

It should be done with advertisements for fossil fuels, according to the municipality of Amsterdam. It has decided that to begin with, there will no longer be any advertisements in the metro for things related to it, NOS. Then you should think of advertisements for cheap flights, but also car advertisements. If a car has a fuel engine, it is no longer possible to place an advertisement for it in the Amsterdam metro.

According to Alderman Marieke van Doorninck (GroenLinks), it is important that the ‘need to combat climate change is also reflected in advertisements’. The Municipality of Amsterdam therefore decided to take this first step after a call from citizens’ initiative ‘Verbied Fossiele Reclames’. That expresses the hope that this will set an example for other cities. Greenpeace Netherlands sees this as a ‘strong signal’ and hopes that advertisements for fossil fuels will follow the same path to the exit as advertisements for tobacco products at the time.
