Google’s personal assistant is sometimes intrusive. If you don’t need it, here’s how to turn it off momentarily or permanently
Why does the Google Assistant sometimes trigger without warning? Quite simply because he thought he heard the sound sequence “OK Google”. This happens especially if you have left your smartphone on in a place where a lot of people are talking. If you do not intend or no longer want to use the assistant, it is possible to prevent it from being triggered, or even to deactivate it completely:
- Long press the Android home button to launch the wizard, then tap the blue drawer icon.

- Tap on the menu icon (three small horizontal dots) and Settings.

- In the section Devices, select your smartphone (Phone in our example).

- You access the wizard settings. You can then deactivate the switch Access with Voice Match to prevent the assistant from triggering when it hears or thinks it hears “OK Google”.

- And if you no longer want to use the wizard, simply turn off the switch Google Assistant. You can always reactivate it if needed.
