App Store Gems: Discord is the perfect iPhone app for gamers

Every day we scour the internet to find the best apps from the App Store for your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV. Today, OMT editor Dunke van Boekel has the Discord chat app ready for you.

Social media allows you to communicate with virtually anyone around the world. With apps like WhatsApp and Messenger you probably mainly communicate with the people close to you. App Store Pearl Discord on your iPhone actually merges the two.

Discord lets you chat with friends and strangers on your iPhone

There are two ways to communicate with people in this App Store Pearl. Via the DMs (Direct Messages) that are well known to many, so just a one-on-one conversation. Discord, on the other hand, also works with so-called servers. The administrator can organize this entirely himself with categories, different channels for certain topics and separate voice chats for video calling. And all from your iPhone.

You can of course use these servers on your iPhone to have organized conversations with your friends, but you can also build real communities with them. This can be about absolutely any topic. There are servers for artists, games, movies and series, but also sports. So you meet people with similar interests through this App Store Pearl.

In addition, Discord is constantly supported with new features. For example, a soundboard was recently released for calling, and you can now create ‘threads’. These are a kind of temporary channels, for when a new game is announced, for example.

Give the App Store Pearl itself a lick of paint

There’s also a lot to customize on how both your profile and Discord “self” look. For example, the iPhone app lets you use GIFs as profile pictures or set a particular theme. You do need Discord Nitro for this, by the way. This will cost you 3 euros per month for a ‘Classic’ subscription or ten euros for a more extensive subscription that, among other things, increases the size of files that you can upload in the App Store Parel.

So, do you feel like having conversations with fellow fans from all over the world on your iPhone? Then pull Discord from the App Store.
