Apple achieved great success, but these 5 products were a rock solid flop

Apple makes beautiful products. The iPhone, MacBook, iPad and Apple Watch are all a success and work flawlessly. But that was not the case for some of the company’s products. We list five that did not do so well.

When you think of Apple, you probably immediately think of success. That is not surprising, because it is one of the most valuable companies in the world. One product contributed more to this than the other. But what are the biggest flops?

Apple’s 5 biggest flops

Of course, not everything has been a success for Apple. So here are the five biggest flops. We are curious if you (re) know them all.

#1 Lisa

With Lisa you may think of a girl’s name, but that has nothing to do with this flop. Lisa stands for Local Integrated Software Architecture, a computer that Apple introduced to the business market in 1983.

It was not a great success and that was mainly due to the price. It was $10,000 at the time, which is now equivalent to $30,000. Apple sold a maximum of 100,000 and buried some 2,700 copies somewhere in Utah. If you find one now, it will probably give you a lot of power.

#2 Power Mac G4 Cube

Another computer from Apple that failed to live up to it. The Power Mac G4 Cube from 2000 looked spectacular because of its special appearance. It turns out that looks are not everything, because only about 150,000 copies were sold for about $ 1,799.

And that is mainly due to Apple itself. Around that time, the regular Power Mac G4, which cost about $200 less and had more upgrade options, such as the number of RAM slots and AirPort cards, was more popular. Even Tim Cook called it a spectacular failure.

#3 Newton Message Pad

On to a product you’ve probably never heard of. That explains exactly why this was a flop. Still, it is an important invention for Apple, because it led to the creation of the iPhone.

The 1993 Newton MessagePad was a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and came with a stylus. On this device you could store contacts, make notes and even send faxes. Yet there was an error in the system, the device could not recognize handwriting well enough. Since that was one of the core tasks, given the stylus, so you know why this product failed.

#4 iPhone 5C

With Apple you usually immediately think of expensive products and that is of course logical, since the company is often in the top segment. Still, Apple tried to do things differently in 2013 with the iPhone 5C. And let that not have been successful.

The iPhone 5C came out at the same time as the 5S, but there was a big difference. Instead of a metal chassis, the exterior of the 5C was made of plastic. The inside, however, was the same. Yet people were not jumping for it, despite the fact that the device was $ 100 cheaper. That is why a C-model was never released again.

#5 Apple Watch Edition

Finally, Apple’s most recent flop. Given that it dates back to 2015, you can say that the company is doing well. Unlike the 5C, which was too cheap, the Apple Watch Edition was way too expensive.

Apple wanted to appeal to the premium segment with the Watch Edition. It therefore released an Apple Watch made of real gold. Still, people weren’t thrilled to spend $10,000 to $17,000 for an Apple Watch. And that actually makes sense, because why would you spend so much money on a watch that is only supported with updates for a few years? Then you would rather spend that on a ‘regular’ Rolex or Breitling.
