Apple has announced a new Mac! The Mac Studio 2025 has been unveiled and has been equipped with Apple’s fastest processor so far. At the Mac Studio you have the choice between the M4 Max and the M3 Ultra chip. Contrary to what the name suggests, the M3 Ultra chip is the best presenting processor from Apple ever. The M3 Ultra chip has a CPU with up to 32 cores, including 24 Performance-Cores and 8 Efficiency Cores. That makes the chip up to 1.5 times as fast as the M2 Ultra chip.
The Mac Studio 2025 is Apple’s first device with the M3 Ultra chip. The processor has 96 GB to 512 GB of memory, making heavy tasks such as 3D rendering effortlessly. The standard model of the Mac Studio comes with the M4 MAX chip. We saw this earlier with the best version of the MacBook Pro 2024. The M4 MAX chip has a 14 or 16-core CPU, up to 40-core GPU and up to 128 GB of memory.
Thunderbolt 5
Both the M3 Ultra and the M4 MAX chip have support for Thunderbolt 5. The Mac Studio has four Thunderbolt 5 ports if you opt for the M4 Max chip. Are you going for the more advanced M3 Ultra chip? Then the Mac Studio 2025 has no fewer than six Thunderbolt 5 ports. With Thunderbolt 5, the Mac Studio has support for transferring files to 120 GB/s, which is up to three times faster than Thunderbolt 4.
The previous generation of the Mac Studio came from 2023 and ran on the M2 Max or M2 Ultra chip. With the new M3 Ultra and the M4 Max chip, Thunderbolt 5 and the improved memory, Apple has implemented major changes to the Mac Studio 2025. In the design we see no adjustments, the device is almost the same as the generation of the Mac Studio from 2023.
Release of the Mac Studio 2025
Apple presented the MacBook Air 2025 and the Mac Studio 2025 on Wednesday 5 March. Both devices are immediately available, because the presale has already started. If you order the Mac Studio in the pre-order, the device will be delivered to your home on Wednesday 12 March. That is also the day that the Mac Studio 2025 and the MacBook Air 2025 appear in stores, just like the new iPad 2025 and the iPad Air 2025.
