‘Apple AR/VR headset launch closer: end of this year’ (but not for you)

The launch of the Apple AR/VR headset is one step closer. Last week the AR/VR headset was shown to the board members of Apple. A release is now imminent. iPhoned tells you more.

Apple AR/VR headset launch closer

Apple showed the AR/VR headset to board members last week. This means that the special headset is already at an advanced stage and a release will not be long in coming. Apple has also stepped up its game in the development of the operating system (which will probably be called ‘RealityOS’ or rOS).

According to Bloomberg, we can now expect the AR/VR headset at the end of this year. Unfortunately, consumers have to be patient a little longer. A general release is unlikely to come until 2023.

Many problems during development

Apple has been developing the AR/VR headset for years. According to various rumors, Apple was already planning to release the headset in 2019 (the year that the iPhone 11 appeared). But every year the Cupertino company ran into problems.

Overheating and software errors are just a few examples of issues that needed to be resolved first. As a result, the date has already been pushed back a few times.

Apple AR/VR headset: what’s under the hood?

The headset is rumored to have an ‘innovative display configuration’, consisting of two micro-OLED screens and fifteen camera modules. Furthermore, the headset can follow your eyes and supports various hand gestures. The AR/VR headset (just like the AirPods 3) has support for spatial audio. Furthermore, it has the computing power that is comparable to that of the M1 processor of the Mac and switching between VR and AR would work seamlessly.

Future plans

And further into the future? Apple is expected to present a second-generation AR/VR headset after release. AR glasses are also coming, which should be released sometime in 2024.

It has been seven years since Apple launched a major and truly new product. This was the Apple Watch in 2015. As the AR/VR headset launch approaches, the headset will finally be able to take over this crown.
