Lately, Apple has been focusing on entry-level models of their products, such as the iPhone 17e and the MacBook Neo. However, later this year we may be able to expect a completely different direction. Apple is said to be planning to introduce three new ‘Ultra’ devices this year.
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company is shifting its focus to premium high-end products. This would concern the iPhone Ultra, AirPods Ultra and a MacBook Ultra. We delve deeper into the rumors and what this could mean for you as an Apple user.
Ultra versions of Apple products
At the time of writing, the Apple range and software includes just three Ultra models: the Apple Watch Ultra, Ultra processors and CarPlay Ultra. In these cases, ‘Ultra’ indicates an enhanced version of the standard product. The tech journalist Mark Gurman reports in his power-on newsletter that Apple plans to enrich its range with more high-end and luxury products. It is still unclear whether these will all be called ‘Ultra’, but there is a chance. This would be a high-end version of the iPhone, AirPods and MacBook.
iPhone Ultra: Apple’s foldable iPhone
We previously speculated about the name iPhone Ultra, and it looks like Apple could use this name for its foldable smartphone. Current rumors about the foldable iPhone point to a thin book-shaped folding device with a 7.8-inch OLED display on the inside and a 5.5-inch screen on the outside. The design is described as “two titanium iPhone Airs on a hinge.”
The device could use a new hinge with liquid metal and a special screen technology to make the fold line barely or less visible. In addition, the iPhone Ultra would include two rear cameras (wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle), one 18MP front camera and Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID. Analysts expect an A20 Pro chip, 12 GB of RAM, a battery capacity of 5,400-5,800 mAh for long life and a price around $ 1,800-2,000.
AirPods Ultra with cameras
The most important innovations of the AirPods Pro 3 are improved active noise cancellation and a completely new in-ear fit for better stability and comfort during sports. In addition, they are equipped with a built-in heart rate sensor for health monitoring. However, Apple may be working on a new version that includes cameras and an H3 chip.
With the help of these cameras, the AirPods can scan the environment so that Apple Intelligence can be used in combination with AirPods. The cameras could also recognize hand gestures, so you can operate the wireless earphones. This positions the AirPods Ultra above the Pro models with a clear distinction.
Touchscreen for MacBook Ultra
The MacBook Pro was recently updated and equipped with the M5 Pro/Max chip, but other than that no substantial improvements have been made. Nevertheless, a new model is expected to appear this year. Apple is said to be planning to provide the MacBook Pro with a new design with a touchscreen OLED screen, 5G support, and an M6 processor.
In addition, the notch would be replaced by a punch hole, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. However, it is not yet clear whether the MacBook Pro will also get the Dynamic Island functionality or just a new design for the camera integration.
Ultra or not?
It is still unclear whether Apple will use the name ‘Ultra’ for all these products, although we already see this with the Watch Ultra, CarPlay and M-series chips. However, there is a chance that one or more Apple products will get an Ultra model. So it seems plausible that the iPhone Ultra will be launched, and this would also be a strong move for the MacBook, especially since Apple recently updated the MacBook Pro. All these new products are in the autumn or end of 2026 expected.
